OUR SOLIDARITY AND INTER-ETHNIC COMMITMENT DURING THE CORONAVIRUS EMERGENCY

The emergency of the coronavirus calls us us to a deeper commitment in the name of humanity and in the name of the life that we want to have and to improve.
We need to recognize each other as brothers and sisters in a deeper way, in order to help each other as well as to help our people to face this difficult moment. No one should be left humanely alone. We want to be near our brothers and sisters, to know how they are, how they are feeling, how they are living and what is it that they need, so we can find a way together. We try to tackle individualist behaviours, we try to explain why is it that solidarity is worthwhile, just like caring for and being careful with others, thoughtfully and respectfully thinking about others and listening. Learning and practicing the idea that through helping others we also help ourselves, is a test for all of us. It is humanely, that we can deal with this emergency well. Thanks to our protagonism, we can build and develop a chain of mutual and expansive care as well as of solidarity, which will encourage brothers and sisters, solidary people, brothers and sisters who are role models in their communities to be more pro-active at the same time as well as through uniting strength with other associations.
In line with this vision:
We demand a dignified welcoming for all those who come to this country, we are promoting an appeal for full rights and amnesty for all refugees and immigrants.
We promote information about the prevention measures to face the coronavirus, useful and beneficial rules, opposing the irresponsibility or superficiality in some people’s behaviours and we firmly denounce the violence of the government and the racism which remerges against immigrant brothers and sisters.
So many of our immigrant brothers and sisters have lost their jobs and are in an extremely difficult situation, cornered between living here and the need to send money back to their home countries, and let’s not forget that the very same pandemic is starting to sprout there. Let’s try to stand by their side informing and possibly helping those who can apply to the minimum compensation rights that the government has granted. Moreover we claim the same rights and support for all brothers and sisters.
Let’s activate ourselves to help the people who need a check up and health care, informing them of the possibility, for those who don’t have a family doctor to be able to access the public health facilities (Accident and Emergency, Guardia Medica etc). The biggest problem is that of mediation and understanding the language. In these cases, let’s get in touch with the many solidary people from doctors and nurses, individuals or associations who are committed to caring.
We strongly advise brothers and sisters not to go back to their our countries of origin until the end of the emergency. We face the fears and the worries together reflecting about the fact that this rule is necessary for the good of one’s loved ones as well as for one’s self.
It is important to denounce the inhumane conditions under which asylum seekers brothers and sisters are forced to live under in the centres. We denounce this tragic mess and we strive for all those who live there and all those who work there so that they might be able to do so safely. We believe that those who are being hosted should be welcomed with dignity, that they should be transferred into many more places spreading out this welcoming and that abandoned buildings should be refurbished and made into dignified living spaces.
